Preventative Health Care

At Central Nova Animal Hospital we provide veterinary services for small animals, primarily dogs and cats, as well as basic medical care for exotics

PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE is the focus of our practice. We want to keep our patients as healthy as possible. For example, if we recognize waxy ears and teach proper cleaning techniques, a painful ear infection can be avoided. Our pets have a short lifespan, age faster than we expect and often conceal their medical issues. A thorough History and Physical Exam are the basis of catching health issues before they become a problem.

Preventative medicine involves assessing each individual pet's lifestyle and needs, taking into consideration such issues as breed and age. The components of this include:
      * Annual Physical Exam
      * Appropriate Vaccinations
      * Parasite Prevention (fleas, ticks, worms...)
      * Weight and Nutrition Assessment
      * Dental Evaluation
      * Screening Laboratory Tests

MICROCHIPPING: Lost pets are a common sorrow, made worse if they are injured or sick. At Central Nova Animal Hospital we recommend microchips in addition to external tags. Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and use radio frequency technology to give your pet a unique ID number. This is a permanent identification that cannot fall off and can be read with scanners that most dog control officers, shelters and veterinary hospitals have, enabling pets to be reunited with their families.
