Our Support Team
Tracy Spence, Manager
Tracy moved to Nova Scotia from Toronto and started working at Central Nova Animal Hospital in 1991. She is the longest serving employee here at Central Nova Animal Hospital. She started as a Veterinary Assistant and in recent years has been promoted to Hospital Manager. Her duties include overseeing the running of the animal hospital on a day to day basis, payroll, accounting, scheduling and general trouble shooting
when and where she is needed. At times she is referred to as the glue that helps hold the clinic together.
Tracy, her husband Bruce and her daughter MacKenzie live in Onslow Mountain. Their household includes a orange tabby cat called Monty and a Miniature Dachshund named Peanut Butter Dawn who they brought home as a puppy to foster, however, Peanut has never left.
In her spare time Tracy has taken up water color painting, snowshoeing and zumba. She also enjoys reading, going to the movies, listening to music and volunteering with her daughter’s 4H club.
Tonya Lutz-Cameron, Registered Veterinary Technician
Tonya is a registered veterinary technician. She was born and raised in St. John's, NL where her father instilled in her the love of nature and animals. She moved to Truro in 1991 to attend the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in hopes of finding a career that would involve animals. This is where she met her husband Brad. Tonya graduated with High Honors from the Animal Health Technology Program in 1998 and has a particular interest in dentistry for small animals.
Tonya and Brad have two boys, Mason and Jesse. Tonya has a Labrador Retriever named Avalon and two Siamese cats, Hot Wheels and The Sweetest Thing (Sweety). In her spare time Tonya enjoys camping, running with Avalon, hiking, mountain biking and traveling home to NL to visit with her family.
Shelley Whidden, Veterinary Assistant
Shelley works at Central Nova Animal Hospital as our Veterinary Assistant and has been part of our team since 1996. Her technical skills are utilized in all areas of our clinic, ranging from surgery and patient care, to laboratory and reception.
Shelley has years of experience working with animals and has received many awards for her dedication and volunteer work to help stray, abandoned and abused animals.
Shelley was born and raised in Truro. Shelley and her son Delaney live on a farm with three Golden Retrievers, Joey , Stella and Tater Tot . Also four cats ,a siamese named Kissy ,two sibling half himalayans Sol and Luna and a orange tabby named Turnip.She also has 4 feral barncats she adopted and two chickens named Blanche and Betty White .Shelley's hobbies include biking, hiking, yoga, weight training, camping, kayaking and riding her three horses, Maddie , Reggie and Bagel. Shelley also breeds and shows gorgeous registered Golden Retrievers.
Jennifer Fraser, Registered Veterinary Technician
Jennifer grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and after spending several summers in Nova Scotia, she decided that she would make the province her forever home. In 2007, she started working at Central Nova Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant. She knew that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping animals and decided to pursue her love by becoming a Veterinary Technician.
She attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and graduated with Honors in 2010 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician that same year.
Since working at Central Nova Animal Hospital she has accumulated a large number of pets! At the moment she has three dogs, Salem, Bruno, Mindy and three cats, Winston, Kiwi and Pickles. In her spare time Jennifer enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs.
Renee Garbes, Registered Veterinary Technician
Renee was born and grew up in Truro. She always had a strong love for animals and volunteered at Central Nova Animal Hospital throughout junior high and high school. After finishing high school, she decided to pursue her love of animals by attending the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She graduated in 2005 with a Major in Animal Science and then worked in research for two years before deciding to return to school to become a Veterinary Technician.
In 2009, she graduated from the NSAC Veterinary Technician program with High Honours, became a Registered Veterinary Technician and began working at Central Nova Animal Hospital.
Renee lives with her Boston Terrier Iggie, her cat Clover and her Morgan horse, Logan. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, running, hiking, biking and any other outdoor activity.
Jordan Stevens, Veterinary Technician
Jordan grew up in Debert, right along the outskirts of Truro. As a child she always adored animals and would help her father breed and raise hunting dogs. Jordan went into a Human Services program after high school and after a year of studies she decided it wasn't for her. Once she started volunteering at a vet clinic she realized that helping animals was what she was destined to do. Jordan is a 2017 graduate of the Veterinary Technician program at Dalhousie's
Agricultural Campus, and is beyond trilled to be part of the team at Central Nova! She lives with her boyfriend Scott and together their dog, Diesel. In her spare time Jordan enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs and DIY projects.
Melanie Ross, Receptionist
Melanie is from Truro. She is a graduate of the Medical Administrative Assistant program at Success Business College and loves working as one of our receptionists. She is excellent at multi-tasking, which is an asset when checking in patients, answering phones and keeping the vets on schedule! She is also very knowledgeable about all of our products and is eager to help clients with any questions they may have.
Melanie has a love for all types of animals. At present, she has three cats, Tranzi, Bobby and Ruby, a German Shepherd named Choice and a Pomeranian named Pia.
Judy Gamble, Receptionist
Judy is one of our receptionists and has been with us since April 2005. She graduated from CEC in 1989, then attended The Institute of Early Childhood Education.
She lives with her two children, Madison and Brody. They have two cats named Brandy and Whiskey (pictured here), they came in to the clinic needing a home.
Judy has spent most of her career working with children at local daycare centers. Her caring, outgoing personality contributes greatly to our friendly clinic atmosphere. She always greets each pet and client with a warm, welcoming smile!
Pam Prowse, Receptionist
Pam is one of the founding members of the clinic. She enjoys working part-time and interacting with the clients and staff. Her current dog Pepper is smaller then most cats. (She is picture here with Pepper). In her spare time Pam is very crafty and enjoys playing the drums.
Amy MacKay, Veterinary Assistant
Amy was born in Halifax, and grew up in Truro. Her greatest treasure growing up was her dog Nikki. Amy is a very big people person and ever since she was a little girl she has had an outrageous amount of love for animals and would do anything for them. She surrounds herself with her cat Milo, her parents cat Otis, and two dogs Nova and Chloe who belong to her fiance Cody. In her spare time she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Amy took the veterinary assistant program, and comes to us with a very good knowledge base, Amy tells us she has always wanted to be a part of the amazing family at Central Nova Animal Hospital and we are so glad to have her.
Jessica MacKenzie, Receptionist
Jessica grew up in Truro, with a love for all types of animals, large, small, domestic or exotic. She has worked at Central Nova since 2009 and keeps very busy working other jobs, as well as helping out at her husbands heavy equipment shop.
Jessica has done quite a bit of traveling, and plans on seeing as much of our world as she is able to throughout her future.
She spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors with her husband Alex and their dogs. They have two Pitbull/Labs (Solo & Millie) and a Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua named Marley.
Hannah Totten, Veterinary Assistant
Hannah is a veterinary assistant, she grew up in Truro along with her four siblings. Hannah is setting her sites on being a Medical Laboratory Technologist in the coming future. Hannah enjoys listening to music, swimming and reading books. Hannah has two black labs, Scarlet and Lucy and a Swedish Vallhund named Ivy.
