Tonya Lutz-Cameron,Registered Veterinary Technician
Tonya is a registered veterinary technician. She was born and raised in St. John's, NL where her father instilled in her the love of nature and animals. She moved to Truro in 1991 to attend the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in hopes of finding a career that would involve animals. This is where she met her husband Brad. Tonya graduated with High Honors from the Animal Health Technology Program in 1998 and has a particular interest in dentistry for small animals.
Tonya and Brad have two boys, Mason and Jesse. Tonya has a Labrador Retriever named Avalon and two Siamese cats, Hot Wheels and The Sweetest Thing (Sweety). In her spare time Tonya enjoys camping, running with Avalon, hiking, mountain biking and traveling home to NL to visit with her family.
Jennifer TattrieRegistered Veterinary Technician
Jennifer grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and, after spending several summers in Nova Scotia, decided that she would make the province her forever home. In 2007, she started working at Central Nova Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant. She knew that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping animals and chose to pursue her love by becoming a Veterinary Technician. She attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and graduated with Honors in 2010 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician that same year. Jennifer and her husband, Beau share their home with Bruno the lab mix, two beagles, Becky and Badger as well as four cats, Winston, Tiki, Kiwi, and Pickles. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs.
Renee GarbesRegistered Veterinary Technician
Renee was born and grew up in Truro. She always had a strong love for animals and volunteered at Central Nova Animal Hospital throughout junior high and high school. After finishing high school, she decided to pursue her love of animals by attending the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She graduated in 2005 with a Major in Animal Science and then worked in research for two years before deciding to return to school to become a Veterinary Technician. In 2009, she graduated from the NSAC Veterinary Technician program with High Honours, became a Registered Veterinary Technician and began working at Central Nova Animal Hospital. Renee lives with her Boston Terrier Iggie, her cat Clover and her Morgan horse, Logan. In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, running, hiking, biking, and any other outdoor activity.
Jordan Gullon-CookRegistered Veterinary Technician
Jordan grew up in Debert, right along the outskirts of Truro. As a child, she always adored animals and would help her father breed and raise hunting dogs. Jordan went into a Human Services program after high school and after a year of studies, she decided it wasn't for her. Once she started volunteering at a vet clinic she realized that helping animals was what she was destined to do. Jordan is a 2017 graduate of the Veterinary Technician program at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus, and is beyond thrilled to be part of the team at Central Nova! She and her husband, Scott have a young son, Beau and his buddy, a lab named Diesel as well as two cats, Milo and Peach. In her spare time, Jordan enjoys outdoor activities with family and DIY projects.
Raven KerseyRegistered Veterinary Technician
Raven grew up on a small hobby farm in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. At an early age, she knew that her future had to involve helping animals. Once she graduated high school she worked at the Brookfield Bakery as well as volunteering at local clinics and the SPCA. This confirmed that the Technician program at Dal AC Truro was the right course for her. She graduated in 2017 and shortly after became a Registered Veterinary Technician.She joined our team at Central Nova in 2018 and loves helping the families of Truro and their fur babies. Raven and her boyfriend share their house with a Springer Spaniel named Felix and cats Tucker and Sushi. Next to animals her other passion is nature, she loves exploring the waterfalls and trails of Nova Scotia, camping, gardening, painting and spending lots of time with her family.
Carly CarterRegistered Veterinary Technician
Carly grew up in Tatamagouche and then headed off to New Brunswick where she graduated from Oulton College as a Veterinary Technician in 2019. She passed her national exam two months after graduating and became a Registered Veterinary Technician. Carly lives in River John with her partner, Bradley. They share their lives with their dog, Bella; two cats, Leo and Sparky; and two bunnies, Olive and Pickles. Carly joined us to fill in for a maternity leave in 2020 but will be staying on permanently. She enjoys working with all the various pets that come through our doors, whether they have fur, scales or feathers.
Shelley WhiddenVeterinary Assistant
Shelley is currently on medical leave but has been part of our team since 1996. As a Veterinary Assistant her technical skills are utilized in all areas of our clinic, ranging from surgery and patient care, to laboratory and reception.
Shelley has years of experience working with animals and has received many awards for her dedication and volunteer work to help stray, abandoned and abused animals.
Shelley was born and raised in Truro. Shelley and her son Delaney live on a farm with her Golden Retrievers, several cats and three horses, Maddie, Reggie and Bagel. Shelley's hobbies include biking, hiking, yoga, weight training, camping and kayaking. Shelley also breeds and shows gorgeous registered Golden Retrievers.
Amy FraserVeterinary Assistant
Amy was born in Halifax, and grew up in Truro. Her greatest treasure growing up was her dog Nikki. Amy is a very big people person and ever since she was a little girl she has had an outrageous amount of love for animals and would do anything for them. She surrounds herself with her cat Milo, her parents cat Otis, as well as Nova the dog and Roopie the rabbit. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Amy took the veterinary assistant program and comes to us with a very good knowledge base, Amy tells us she has always wanted to be a part of the amazing family at Central Nova Animal Hospital and we are so glad to have her.
Melanie is from Truro. She is a graduate of the Medical Administrative Assistant program at Success Business College and loves working as one of our receptionists. She is excellent at multi-tasking, which is an asset when checking in patients, answering phones and keeping the vets on schedule! She is also very knowledgeable about all of our products and is eager to help clients with any questions they may have. Melanie has a love for all types of animals. At present, she has three cats, Tranzi, Bobby and Ruby, and a Pomeranian named Pia.
Allee DixonVeterinary Assistant
Allee moved to Nova Scotia from Prince Edward Island in March of 2019. She graduated from the Medical Support Services program at Holland College in 2012 and has been working as a veterinary receptionist since 2015. She is very excited to have become a part of Central Nova Animal Hospital's family in April, 2019 and loves helping clients care for their companion animals. She enjoys walking, writing, reading, and going to stock car races and concerts in her free time. Allee lives with her family in Truro which also includes their dog Penny, two cats, Brian and O'Reilly, three giant goldfish and their newest addition, Benji the bunny.
Jess grew up in Truro and started working at Central Nova in 2009. She also works full time running a mechanic and welding shop with her husband, Alex. Jess loves all animals, large and small and has a passion for traveling, she hopes to see as much of our planet as she can. When not traveling or working, she spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors hiking, camping and four-wheeling with Alex and their dogs, an Am Staff mix named Millie and a Min Pin mix named Marley.
Pam is one of the founding members of the clinic. She enjoys working part-time and interacting with the clients and staff. Her current dog Pepper is smaller than most cats. In her spare time, Pam is very crafty and enjoys playing the drums.
Mandy EllisVeterinary Assistant
Mandy lives in Bible Hill with her husband Jeff, their son Brodie, their dogs Lily and Opie. They also have two cats Sookie and Diesel. Mandy loves all animals, fur, feathers or gills. When she isn’t working you can find her in the barn horsing around with her horses Ball, Digger and Elektra.
Mandy joined us in 2020, is proud to be a member of the Central Nova team and enjoys meeting and caring for all of your pets.
Abby ThiesenVeterinary Assistant
Abby is a local girl and was raised in Valley. She graduated from Cobequid Educational Centre's class of 2020 and is attending the Dal AC where she is studying Bioveterinary Sciences. Abby started volunteering at Central Nova Animal Hospital in June of 2018 and her love of veterinary medicine just kept on growing.
In her spare time Abby goes on long runs, plays with her niece, Rosie, and hangs out with her standard poodle, Lincoln.
Zoe HigginsVeterinary Assistant
Zoe grew up in Upper Musquodoboit and just recently moved to Truro for school. She is going into her second year of the Veterinary Technology program at Dal AC. Zoe knew since she was thirteen that she wanted to pursue a career working with animals. She feels very fortunate to be on her way to reaching her goal and is thrilled to be a part of the Central Nova team! To experience what it’s like to work in a veterinary hospital is something Zoe has always wanted. She loves all animals and meeting your furry friends every day keeps her smiling.
Zoe has had dogs all her life and couldn’t imagine life without one. Her little Frenchie mix, Finn, is her love and joy!
