  • Tracy Spence
    Clinic Manager

    Tracy moved to Nova Scotia from Toronto and started working at Central Nova Animal Hospital in 1991. She is the longest-serving employee here at Central Nova Animal Hospital. She started as a Veterinary Assistant and in recent years has been promoted to Hospital Manager. Her duties include overseeing the running of the animal hospital on a day to day basis, payroll, accounting, inventory, and general trouble shooting when and where she is needed. At times she is referred to as the glue that helps hold the clinic together.Tracy, her husband Bruce and her daughter MacKenzie live in Onslow Mountain. They adopted an orange tabby cat called Monty from the SPCA and just added a French Bulldog named Carl to their family. In her spare time, Tracy has taken up watercolor painting, snowshoeing and Zumba. She also enjoys reading, going to the movies, listening to music and volunteering with her daughter’s 4H club.

  • Tonya Lutz-Cameron,
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Tonya is a registered veterinary technician.  She was born and raised in St. John's, NL where her father instilled in her the love of nature and animals. She moved to Truro in 1991 to attend the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in hopes of finding a career that would involve animals.  This is where she met her husband Brad.  Tonya graduated with High Honors from the Animal Health Technology Program in 1998 and has a particular interest in dentistry for small animals.

    Tonya and Brad have two boys, Mason and Jesse. Tonya has a Labrador Retriever named Avalon and two Siamese cats, Hot Wheels and The Sweetest Thing (Sweety). In her spare time Tonya enjoys camping, running with Avalon, hiking, mountain biking and traveling home to NL to visit with her family.  

  • Shelley Whidden
    Veterinary Assistant

    Shelley works at Central Nova Animal Hospital as our Veterinary Assistant and has been part of our team since 1996. Her technical skills are utilized in all areas of our clinic, ranging from surgery and patient care, to laboratory and reception.
    Shelley has years of experience working with animals and has received many awards for her dedication and volunteer work to help stray, abandoned and abused animals.

    Shelley was born and raised in Truro. Shelley and her son Delaney live on a farm with three Golden Retrievers, Joey, Stella, and Tater Tot. Also four cats, a Siamese named Kissy, two siblings half Himalayans Sol and Luna and an orange tabby named Turnip. She also has 4 feral barn cats she adopted and two chickens named Blanche and Betty White.S helley's hobbies include biking, hiking, yoga, weight training, camping, kayaking and riding her three horses, Maddie, Reggie, and Bagel. Shelley also breeds and shows gorgeous registered Golden Retrievers. 

  • Jennifer Fraser
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Jennifer grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and after spending several summers in Nova Scotia, she decided that she would make the province her forever home. In 2007, she started working at Central Nova Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant. She knew that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping animals and decided to pursue her love by becoming a Veterinary Technician. She attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and graduated with Honors in 2010 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician that same year. Since working at Central Nova Animal Hospital she has accumulated a large number of pets! At the moment she has three dogs, Salem, Bruno, Mindy and three cats, Winston, Kiwi, and Pickles. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs.

  • Renee Garbes
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Renee was born and grew up in Truro. She always had a strong love for animals and volunteered at Central Nova Animal Hospital throughout junior high and high school. After finishing high school, she decided to pursue her love of animals by attending the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She graduated in 2005 with a Major in Animal Science and then worked in research for two years before deciding to return to school to become a Veterinary Technician. In 2009, she graduated from the NSAC Veterinary Technician program with High Honours, became a Registered Veterinary Technician and began working at Central Nova Animal Hospital. Renee lives with her Boston Terrier Iggie, her cat Clover and her Morgan horse, Logan. In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, running, hiking, biking, and any other outdoor activity.

  • Jordan Gullon-Cook
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Jordan grew up in Debert, right along the outskirts of Truro. As a child, she always adored animals and would help her father breed and raise hunting dogs. Jordan went into a Human Services program after high school and after a year of studies, she decided it wasn't for her. Once she started volunteering at a vet clinic she realized that helping animals was what she was destined to do. Jordan is a 2017 graduate of the Veterinary Technician program at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus, and is beyond thrilled to be part of the team at Central Nova! She lives with her boyfriend Scott and together their dog, Diesel.  In her spare time, Jordan enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs and DIY projects.

  • Raven Kersey
    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Raven grew up on a small hobby farm in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. At an early age, she knew that her future had to involve helping animals. Once she graduated high school she worked at the Brookfield Bakery as well as volunteering at local clinics and the SPCA. This confirmed that the Technician program at Dal AC Truro was the right course for her.  She graduated in 2017 and shortly after became a Registered Veterinary Technician.She is new to the team at Central Nova and is excited to start this journey of helping the families of Truro and their fur babies.Raven and her boyfriend recently bought a house and live there with Felix, a 2 year old Springer Spanial and Tucker, a 5 month old kitten.  Next to animals her other passion is nature, she loves exploring the waterfalls and trails of Nova Scotia, camping, gardening, painting and spending lots of time with her family.

  • Melanie Ross,

    Melanie is from Truro. She is a graduate of the Medical Administrative Assistant program at Success Business College and loves working as one of our receptionists. She is excellent at multi-tasking, which is an asset when checking in patients, answering phones and keeping the vets on schedule! She is also very knowledgeable about all of our products and is eager to help clients with any questions they may have. Melanie has a love for all types of animals. At present, she has three cats, Tranzi, Bobby and Ruby, a German Shepherd named Choice and a Pomeranian named Pia.

  • Amy Fraser
    Veterinary Assistant

    Amy was born in Halifax, and grew up in Truro. Her greatest treasure growing up was her dog Nikki.  Amy is a very big people person and ever since she was a little girl she has had an outrageous amount of love for animals and would do anything for them.  She surrounds herself with her cat Milo, her parents cat Otis, and two dogs Nova and Chloe who belong to her fiance Cody. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Amy took the veterinary assistant program and comes to us with a very good knowledge base, Amy tells us she has always wanted to be a part of the amazing family at Central Nova Animal Hospital and we are so glad to have her.

  • Allee Dixon
    Veterinary Assistant

    Allee moved to Nova Scotia from Prince Edward Island in March of 2019. She graduated from the Medical Support Services program at Holland College in 2012 and has been working as a veterinary receptionist since 2015. She is  very excited to have become a part of Central Nova Animal Hospital's family in April, 2019 and loves helping clients care for their companion animals. She enjoys walking, writing, reading, and going to stock car races and concerts in her free time. Allee lives with her family in Truro which also includes their dog Penny, two cats, Brian and O'Reilly, three giant goldfish and their newest addition, Benji the bunny.

  • Pam Prowse

    Pam is one of the founding members of the clinic. She enjoys working part-time and interacting with the clients and staff. Her current dog Pepper is smaller than most cats. In her spare time, Pam is very crafty and enjoys playing the drums.

  • Jessica MacKenzie

    Jess grew up in Truro and started working at Central Nova in 2009.  She also works full time running a mechanic and welding shop with her husband, Alex.  Jess loves all animals, large and small and has a passion for traveling, she hopes to see as much of our planet as she can.  When not traveling or working, she spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors hiking, camping and four-wheeling with Alex and their dogs, an Am Staff mix named Millie and a Min Pin mix named Marley.

  • Carly Carter
    Veterinary Technician

    Carly has just graduated from Oulton College in New Brunswick as a Veterinary Technician. She lives in River John with her partner Bradley, their dog Bella and 2 cats Leo and Sparky.  Carly will be helping us out here for the summer.

  • Jonathon Macmillan
    Veterinary Assistant

    Jonathon is our summer student this year, he attends South Colchester Academy and is a part of the basketball, soccer and track and field team. He is involed with his local 4-H club and his hockey team.
