Basic Care for Exotics

Exotic Pets

At Central Nova Animal Hospital we enjoy the variety and challenge exotic pets bring to our practice, while recognizing our diagnostic and treatment limitations.

The most common exotic pets we see are rabbits, ferrets and rodents (rats, hamsters, gerbils...), although we do see occasional reptiles and birds. We are able to deal with common minor medical problems and basic procedures such as teeth, wing and nail trims.

We commonly spay and neuter rabbits as well as other small rodents. We can also perform minor surgeries such as lump removals on most exotics. For more complex medical problems or advanced testing we would often want refer your pet to a veterinarian in Halifax or Moncton or the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI.
